Retired govt official become victim of forex scam, loses Rs 2L

Ahmedabad: A 65-year-old retired govt employee from the Ghodasar area of the city was duped of Rs 2 lakh allegedly by an unidentified fraudster who lured him into a fake forex investment scheme via WhatsApp.According to the FIR, the senior citizen received a call in mid-July from a UK-based number promoting high returns through foreign exchange trading.Intrigued by the claims and financial projections presented by the caller, the complainant engaged in a conversation and was persuaded to invest Rs 2 lakh in what was claimed to be a secure trading platform. The accused shared bank account details under the name of a trading company and assured quick returns. Trusting the scheme, the victim transferred the money on Monday. However, when there was no communication after the transaction, he grew suspicious. Upon consulting his son an hour later, the fraud came to light. The family alerted their bank and submitted a stop-payment request. The victim then filed a police complaint on Friday. An FIR has been registered at Isanpur police station under BNS Section 316(2) (breach of trust), Section 318(2) (cheating), and Sections 66C and 66B of the IT Act.
