BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — If you receive a suspicious text from the Alabama Department of Vehicles, the Bay Minette Police Department is warning people not to engage with it.

According to a Facebook post from BMPD, the text scam is spreading throughout the Mobile community, threatening to suspend licenses and vehicle registrations.

“There is no such thing as “mydmv.revenue-alabamv.cc/pay”- that’s a phishing scam trying to steal your personal info,” the post said. “There’s also no such thing as the Alabama ‘Department of Vehicles.’ Alabama has ALDOT, or Alabama Department of Transportation.”

The police recommend following these tips to keep you and your information safe:

  • Don’t ever click on strange texts/emails wanting you to pay for suspicious charges/fees.

  • If you have a question about government fines/fees/etc., then contact that agency directly.
