DCI still analysing electronic gadgets in Koimburi abduction case, court told

All five accused in the case surrounding the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi appeared before Milimani Magistrate Mark Ekhubi on Tuesday, as the court was informed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is still analysing seized electronic devices.

The prosecution told the court that mobile phones and other gadgets recovered from the suspects had been submitted to the DCI headquarters and its forensic lab, where the extraction process remains ongoing.

“The phones and other electronic gadgets have been forwarded to the DCI headquarters and forensic laboratories. The extraction process is still ongoing, and the items are expected to be released within 21 days,” the prosecution said in the session.

The accused, MP George Koimburi, Peter Kiratu, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Muhia, and Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, were all present in court and represented by their respective lawyers.

Their defence teams confirmed having received part of the prosecution’s submissions and agreed to the set timelines.

The prosecution also indicated that discussions had been held between the parties concerning the release of impounded vehicles, with consensus that the vehicles be released after seven days.

“We discussed the release of the motor vehicles and agreed they will be released after seven days,” the counsel said.

Magistrate Ekhubi acknowledged the cooperation between parties and set the matter for mention on September 10, 2025, to confirm the status of disclosure and the release of both the electronic gadgets and motor vehicles.

The case stems from a May 25, 2025, incident in which MP Koimburi was reported missing shortly after attending a church service.

Footage later surfaced showing him being bundled into a vehicle.

He was subsequently located and taken to Karen Hospital, where he has been under medical care.

The MP and the other co-accused face charges of allegedly conspiring to defeat justice by stage-managing the MP’s abduction to prevent arrest and arraignment at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was to face four counts related to land fraud as directed by the Office of the DPP.

All five accused were granted cash bail of Sh300,000.

The court also barred them from contacting witnesses and directed them to report to the investigating officer as required.
